PRUMC Handbell Program
The handbell program at the Pearl River United Methodist Church began in 1979, under the direction Dottie Clark. Over the years, it expanded to include three handbell choirs.
Cherub Chimes: for children in grades kindergarten through 4th grade. This beginning group is learning basic ringing technique. We hope to start to learn to read music in the fall!
Wesley Ringers: for older children, in 6th – 12th grades. This group goes beyond the basic techniques of ringing. We have also participated in the Hudson Valley Young Ringers’ Festival in early spring. We are not the only bell ringers around!
Memorial Bells: our adult handbell group. There are 12 ringers in this group, covering 5 octaves, or 61 bells. Some ringers have 30 years of ringing experience; some are working on their first year. For many years, this group has participated in the Hudson Valley Handbell Festival, traditionally the last Saturday in April at Nyack College.
The three choirs present concerts in December and May.
If you are interested in ringing (or you have a child interested), please see Pamela Gunning, Handbell Choir Director.
